Brand Names: Noroxin, Norflox.

Drug Uses

This medicine is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections.

How to use

Take this medicine by mouth, usually twice a day, at least 1 hour before or at least 2 hours after a meal or dairy products (eg, milk, yogurt). Take with a full glass of water (8 ounces or 240 milliliters). Drink plenty of fluids while you are taking this medicine, unless your doctor tells you otherwise. The dose is based on your medical condition.

Take this medicine 2 hours before or 2 hours after taking any product that contains magnesium, aluminum, or calcium. Some examples include quinapril, certain forms of didanosine (chewable / buffer dispersible tablets or pediatric oral solutions), vitamins / minerals, and antacids. Enriched with calcium juices, sucralfate, bismuth subsalicylate, iron and zinc are also included. These products bind with noroxin preventing its complete absorption.

Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in the body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, take this medicine at equal time intervals. Continue taking this medicine until the prescribed amount is used up even if the symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping this medicine prematurely may allow the bacteria to continue growing and the infection to relapse. Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.

Drugs and Class Mechanism

Noroxin belongs to a class of drugs called quinolones. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This antibiotic only treats bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (eg common cold, flu). Unnecessary or excessive use of any antibiotic can decrease its effectiveness.
